The MVAA provides a competitive program allowing cheerleaders to take their love of the sport to the next level. Although, an immense amount of work goes into the season, the rewards are worth it! Our competitive program started in 2008 with one team and has continued to grow through the years.
Our competitive program is an extension of our rec program, meaning, girls from the rec program are invited by coaches to competition cheer. If an athlete is unable to cheer in the fall or cheers for another program, we will give them a two-week evaluation to see if it is a good fit.
We expect our athletes to be enrolled in tumbling classes and working throughout the season to improve their skills. Athletes are also, expected to be at every practice and under no circumstance can they miss a competition. During a cheer competition routine, every athlete is always being used. A schedule is given in the beginning on the season for practices, team bonding activities, andcompetitions- coaches try to make minimal changes to this schedule but the season is in winter, so it does require some flexibility. Coaches do go over their specific attendance policy for their team at the introductory meeting for each season.
MVAA Cheerleading rents out Synergy Sports and Gems in Frederick. Because we are a rec program, we are able to keep pricing reasonable for families. Our program is small and offers a family feel. We understand it is more than the cheerleader sacrificing their time and energy, it is parents, siblings, grandparents, and many more. Our coaching staff hosts events for teams, as well as separate events for parents.
We have enjoyed a lot of success in our program! We have won Reach the Beach 6 out of 7 years, Battle of the Capitol winners 2 out of 3 years, and have been US FINALS Champions in 2011, 2015, 2021 (igKNIGHTed and PHOENIX). We have had countless first place finishes, multiple grand championships, a national grand championships.
We are proud and humbled to watch our cheerleaders grow, not only as athletes, but as community members. Our teams are required to participate in community service and held to high standard in the way they carry themselves. We want the MVAA Cheer program to be represented in the best possible light.
